DeKALB – The NIU special teams delivered a strong performance Saturday against Utah – in fact, coach Rod Carey said the units were a play away from perfect.
In a 17-6 loss that included a blocked field goal and fumble recovery on a punt among other strong plays, the only blemish was a high snap on a field-goal attempt in the second quarter.
“I would have been sitting here saying special teams-wise, I’m extremely happy,” Carey said. “Except the high snap on the field goal, that’s three points. If you do the simple math, we are only one score down at the end of the game.”
