The 124th Big Rock Plowing Match will feature all the traditional events everyone looks forward to as well as several new ones. The event will run Friday through Sunday at Plowman’s Park, 48W508 Hinckley Road in Big Rock.
Events new this year include a bags tournament from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Wooden Rockers from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and the Big Rock Fire Department and Plowing Match Association are co-sponsoring a beer tent from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, as well as from noon to close Saturday and Sunday.
Old time baseball returns with a game at 7 p.m. Friday. All players ages 16 and older are invited to participate, so bring your own equipment. Gather at the field at 6:30 p.m.
Experience the farming scene on Saturday and Sunday. Drawing for lands will be at 9 a.m. with plowing to begin at 9:30 a.m. and trophy presentation at 4 p.m. on both days. The community petting zoo will have farm animals provided by local farmers. FFA and 4-H members will be manning this exhibit located near the horseshoe pit area.
The baked goods auction beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday will feature cookies, candy, cakes, pies and special mini-quilts depicting this unique event. The auction is the association’s primary fundraiser with all proceeds supporting the Plowing Match events, as well as maintaining the buildings and grounds.
