Prep roundup: Oretga-Lara scores twice for Cogs in win


Omar Ortega-Lara bookended the scoring in the Genoa-Kingston boys soccer teams’ 5-1 win Tuesday at home against North Boone.

Ortega-Lara started the scoring for the Cogs in the eighth minute, Issac Vasquez scored 23 minutes later and Ben Reams added a goal off an Ortega-Lara assist in the 35th minute.

Eagan Reams added a goal from a Vasquez assist, then after the Vikings scored, Ortega-Lara capped the scoring with an assist from Jaxon Blank.

Rony Vasquez had seven saves for the Cogs.


Sycamore beats Morris: The Spartans were 4-1 winners.

DeKalb swept by LaSalle-Peru: The Barb lost, 5-0, to the Pirates.

Josie Hoppenworth and Izi Meyer Miller had a close first set at No. 1 doubles before losing, 7-5, 6-2.

The Barbs fell to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 with the loss.


IC sweeps Rockford Christian: The Timberwolves won, 26-24, 25-16.

Trysta Foster had 11 kills, three aces and seven digs, all team highs.

Kaneland falls to Rock Falls: The Knights lost, 25-19, 25-19.

The Knights fall to 9-4.

G-K loses to Rochelle: The Cogs lost, 13-25, 28-26, 25-13.

The Cogs scored six of the first seven points in the second set, and led, 19-15, before the Hubs tied things up at 21.


Kaneland tops Morris: The Knights won their second conference meet in a row, 149-174, over Morris.

Will Marshall was the medalist with a 3-under-par 32. Ryan Milton (37) and Michael Patroll (39) also scored under 40 for Kaneland.

IC edges Earlville: The Timberwolves won by a stroke, 192-193. R.J. McCoy led Indian Creek with a 45.


G-K picks up win: The Cogs beat North Boone, which didn’t field enough golfers to post a team score.

G-K’s Hannah Mueller led all golfers with a 51 as the Cogs finished with a 232.
