DeKALB – For three of the four halves it has played in this year, the DeKalb football team has shut out its opponent.
Metea Valley hasn’t scored a point this year.
DeKalb coach Matt Weckler said with rival Sycamore looming next week, the Barbs are not looking ahead and are learning a lesson from 2016 – when they led an 0-2 Lake Park team, 21-0, at halftime but lost, one of only two victories for the Lancers that year.
“Our kids are really focused on this week,” Weckler said. “We were in this situation a couple years ago when we went into Lake Park when we were 2-0, and they were 0-2, and we let one slip by. ... Our kids that had the opportunity to play in the game really remember that, and the focus is still there. We play to be 1-0, and that’s what we’re doing this week.”
