Letter: Republican Party back in DeKalb County

To the Editor:

“Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their party.”

Many of us typed those words thousands of times in high school typing class. Aside from the noninclusive pronoun, those words were never truer than they are today. As chairman of the DeKalb County Republican Central Committee, I have seen more than ever the need for good residents to get involved with – to come to the aid of – the DeKalb County Republican Party.

Gone are the days when we could sit back and let the votes roll in. Effort, significant effort, is required. In our busy lives, it may seem a small thing to write a letter, knock on a few doors, or write a check. But these little things add up to big things for our candidates. And your help is certainly needed.

The DeKalb County Republican Party is committed to helping our local candidates. Our candidates are not motivated by external ideological concerns. They are interested only in serving their fellow residents in ways consistent with our values. Each of our local candidates is connected to the community – interested not in office, but in service.

The party is committed to lower taxes, smaller government, reliance on local control over federal control, protecting faith, family and freedom from any infringement, and respect for the law and those who enforce it. We respect Constitutional government, free enterprise over central government planners, a tax system which rewards thrift and hard work and the worth and dignity of all people.

Those of you who have wondered where the party has gone need wonder no longer. From one candidate running for DeKalb County Board in the city of DeKalb two years ago, we have three candidates running in this election. We have appointed 17 new precinct committee members, but are always interested in more.

It is your party, but it only thrives with your involvement. Indeed, it suffers without it.

You are welcome to join with us to assist our local candidates in this election. Our 2018 headquarters is 215 N. Fourth St. in DeKalb. Leave a message at 815-641-5253. Like us on Facebook @dekalbcountyilgop or view our website
