MAPLE PARK – Farmers can see firsthand how to control weeds and build soil health in an organic system during a free field day Wednesday at Lily Lake Organic Farm in Maple Park. This 224-acre certified organic farm has a rotation that includes buckwheat, corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, oats and cover crops.
Host farmer Dave Campbell has been researching methods to eradicate Canada thistle and is finding success with sorghum sudangrass, which he’ll highlight at this event.
The field day is organized by OGRAIN, which is a partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Madison, UW-Extension and the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service.
The field day runs from 1 to 5 p.m. The farm’s address is 4N852 Wooley Road. Driving directions, the day’s agenda, and registration are online at mosesorganic.org/aug-29. Farmers may also register by calling MOSES at 715-778-5775.
