Lexa has been teaching at Lincoln Elementary for the past 30 years. She first attended the school as a student. Her principal, Jim Keeney, later hired her as a teacher. Lexa plans on retiring in 2020.
“While growing up, we were conditioned to not having air conditioning,” said Lexa. “Now children are conditioned to having it. The demeanor of the students in air conditioned buildings is more focused. I think a lot more learning will happen because of the air conditioning.”
DeKalb mom Julie VanderBleek came to pick up her daughter, Ruby, at the end of the first day of school.
“We were ready for her to go to school, but we’re also still ready to visit the Hopkins Park pool,” she said. “The air conditioning at Lincoln Elementary School is great.”
