KIRKLAND – What should be a time to focus on fine-tuning a team heading into the season opener also has turned into a scurry to find an opponent for the Hiawatha football team.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart announced last week it was co-oping with Rockford Christian Life, eliminating a team from the Northeastern Athletic Conference and the Hawks’ Week 4 opponent.
Although the Hawks can accept a forfeit, coach Jason Keneway said the team is looking to fill the date – even if it is a tall task for a game not even six weeks away.
“We can take the win and not play, which you don’t like,” Keneway said. “You want to play all nine games. But at the same time, we don’t want to travel to some school that’s four times the size of us, get hurt, beat up and take a loss. So it’s difficult.”
