SYCAMORE – Illinois state Rep. Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, recently was appointed a member of two Illinois House committees responsible for K-12 education policy and oversight.
Keicher now will serve on the state elementary and secondary education school curriculum and policies committee, along with the licensing, administration and oversight committee, according to a news release.
Keicher said in the release his goal is to reduce the number of unfunded mandates on local schools and to give locally elected school district boards more control of curriculum and education policy decisions in consultation with their school administrators, educators and parents.
He said lawmakers must stop adding financial burdens onto local schools that property taxpayers are on the hook for.
Illinois House committees will next meet when the Illinois General Assembly returns to Springfield for the annual Fall Veto Session beginning Nov. 13.
