DeKALB – Police still are investigating an incident where there were several shots fired Tuesday night in the 400 block of North First Street.
DeKalb police Cmdr. Bob Redel said a group of people that live in the area were engaged in a confrontation where threats were exchanged with someone in a car about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. A few minutes later, he said, the victim’s car was shot while the victim was outside of the car but close by.
“We’re still trying to figure out what sparked that confrontation,” Redel said.
Redel said the call came in at
9:38 p.m. Tuesday. He said the original confrontation was between three and four men, but police still are trying to determine how many left and how many came back after the original incident.
Redel said it’s unclear how many people shot at the car. But, he said, multiple shell casings were found at the scene and the car is being processed as evidence.
Redel said several shots were fired, no one was hurt and no one is in custody at this time. He declined to release the number of suspects that police are considering.
“We’re still in the stages of investigating what has occurred that night,” Redel said.
Redel said police will keep interviewing people and continue to look at area surveillance video from nearby businesses and residences. When asked if there still was a threat to public safety after the incident, he said the victims were definitely targeted and it was not a random act.
“But then again, we still have someone out there that shot a gun,” Redel said.
