DeKALB – With extensive workouts all summer, DeKalb coach Matt Weckler said there’s one major difference between those and fall workouts.
Fall camp – which started Monday for the Barbs ahead of their season opening game at Lake Park on Aug. 24 – has a much higher set of expectations from the coaching staff, Weckler said.
“We work pretty darn hard in the summer, so there’s some continuation,” said Weckler, entering his sixth year with the Barbs. “But at the same time, as we told our kids on the last day of camp, the intensity of the coaching increases. The expectations increase. In the summer, we play hard, and we play fast, but it’s more of a teach/install-type atmosphere. Now the expectations are higher, and we come out with the expectation that we are competing from this point on.”
