Genoa woman hurt, cited for DUI in one-vehicle crash

GENOA – A 34-year-old woman suffered injuries that were not life-threatening when police said her SUV went airborne while she was driving under the influence Wednesday night on North State Road south of Ash Road.

According to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Bethany A. Harney, of the 12100 block of North Pine Circle in Genoa, was driving north in her 2008 Jeep Cherokee on North State Road about 6:24 p.m. when, about half -mile south of Ash Road, she drove into the east ditch.

The release said Harney drove through trees and vegetation before hitting a field entrance, at which point her SUV went airborne and landed facing east in the east ditch. Harney was taken to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford with injuries that were not life-threatening, and she was cited for DUI and improper lane usage. She was wearing her seat belt.

According to jail staff, Harney never went to the DeKalb County Jail.
