SYCAMORE – Six new flags will be dedicated next week at the same place a traveling Vietnam War veterans memorial was set up when it came into town last year.

The Wall That Heals committee is hosting a dedication ceremony for six new flags at 1 p.m. June 30 at Sycamore Community Park, 940 E. State St. The flags will represent the five branches of the U.S. military and a prisoners of war/missing in action flag.

Frank Beierlotzer, public relations officer for the committee, said the six flagpoles already have been installed at the park. The dedication is free and open to the public.

Beierlotzer said there was money left over after the traveling memorial visited Sycamore last year. Rather than keep the money in the committee bank account, Beierlotzer said, the committee decided to use the money for the flags dedication this year in the same place that the traveling memorial was displayed also in 1997 and 2007.

“It’s in honor of all the services and POW/MIA,” Beierlotzer said.
