Buggs anchors fastest 4x200-meter relay team in the state
DeKALB – Each time Brimonet Buggs stepped onto the track over the past three years, she felt she had to prove someone wrong.
Despite three previous appearances at state entering this past season, Buggs and her DeKalb teammates were left off numerous preseason award and watch lists. Following last year’s success, Buggs said the Barbs felt like they received little to no recognition from the IHSA during postseason accolades.
The snubs helped fuel Buggs’ senior season, which culminated with a first-place finish at the state meet in the 4x200-meter relay, second-place honors in the 4x100 and the fourth-best time in the 100. Buggs is the Daily Chronicle 2018 Girls Track and Field Player of the Year.
