DeKALB – Ten years ago, a DeKalb-based soccer and Sycamore-based team merged into Northern Illinois Football Club, with the goal of improving high school soccer in the area.
Now a decade later and twice the size as when it started, president Dan Carl said the club has changed a ton.
“There’s all kinds of new platforms for competition,” Carl said. “Early on we were just playing basic league play. It was the first step many clubs go through. But in recent years, the level of competition has pushed kids into higher levels of regional tournaments. We’ve had to step up to that, offer that. We have kids that want to go and see big opportunities, so we had to adjust our programming so we can offer programming that larger clubs do.”
