DeKalb School District 428 Board to vote on new director of athletics and activities

The DeKalb School District 428 Board is expected to approve a contract to make Peter Goff the next director of athletics and activities during Tuesday’s meeting.
The DeKalb School District 428 Board is expected to approve a contract to make Peter Goff the next director of athletics and activities during Tuesday’s meeting.

DeKALB – The DeKalb School District 428 Board will be looking to hire its fourth director of athletics and activities in seven years with the approval of a contract for Peter Goff during Tuesday’s meeting.

Goff comes from Kaneland School District 302, where he has served as athletic director since 2014 and spent a short period as an interim softball coach. Before that, he was dean of students at Sycamore High School for two years.

District 428’s last athletic director, Nic Kearfott, turned in his letter of resignation March 5 to take over as athletic director at Normal Community High School. Since 2012, the district has had three athletic directors.

If Goff’s contract is approved, he will be employed for 260 days starting July 1 at a $115,000 salary.

He will be eligible for a one-time merit increase based on a positive evaluation by his supervisor during the 2018-19 school year.

The board also will assume Goff’s entire Teachers’ Retirement System contribution if the contract is approved.

If hired, Goff will be entitled to 20 vacation days and 15 days of sick leave, with the ability to accumulate four personal days that can be converted to sick days.

The board and Goff can mutually agree to extend his employment for a one-year period.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the District 428 Education Center, 901 S. Fourth St.
