The Northern Illinois softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to finish a three-game sweep of Buffalo, 7-5, on Saturday.

Anne Allen doubled home Bekah Harnish with one out, then a single by Katie Lamich with two outs gave the Huskies the lead for good, breaking the 5-5 tie.

“A sweep of a (Mid-American Conference) opponent is a big deal for us,” said coach Christina Sutcliffe. “It is from a standpoint of trying to get ourselves back in the rankings within the MAC and for momentum moving forward.”

NIU finished with 12 hits, including five players with two-hit games – Jenny VanGeertry, Sam Schmidt, Alayine Woollard, Allen and Lamich. Geertry had a triple and a homer in a two-RBI game, while Schmidt also blasted a homer. Lamich finished with two RBIs.

Alex Frenz got the win in relief and MacKenzie Bryan got the save for the Huskies (13-20 overall, 4-2 MAC)
