Johnson led Huskies last season in interceptions and forced fumbles, second on team in tackles
DeKALB – Northern Illinois linebacker Jawuan Johnson will not return for his senior season, NIU coach Rod Carey confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson was one of NIU’s best defensive players in 2017, starting all 13 games and finishing second on the team in tackles (98). He led the Huskies in interceptions with five – the most by a Huskies linebacker since 1972 – and forced fumbles (five).
The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker is expected to graduate from NIU in May and will become a graduate transfer, Carey said through an NIU athletics spokesperson. Johnson is listed as a communications and media studies major, according to his bio on NIU athletics’ website. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
