Man charged with having child porn allowed to move to Colorado

SYCAMORE – A DeKalb County judge ruled that a man charged with child pornography possession can move back to Colorado, where he’ll live with his mother.

If convicted, Matthew D. Maxwell, 27, of the 600 block of Bush Street in DeKalb, could face three to seven years in prison.

The criminal charges said that in June 2017, Maxwell had four photos of a girl younger than 18, two videos of a girl younger than 18, and three pictures of a girl younger than 13, court records show.

On Thursday, Chief Judge Robbin Stuckert ruled that Maxwell can move back into his mother’s house, in the 16000 block of Road T in Cahone, Colorado, but that he’s not to be allowed internet access.

Maxwell turned himself in on a $50,000 warrant March 16, and posted $5,000 bail to be released. According to DeKalb Police Cmdr. Steve Lekkas, the pictures and videos were downloaded from the internet, and none of the victims were local.

A motion filed by Maxwell’s lawyer, Michael F. McMahon, said he will be able to make all his court hearings. Maxwell is due back in court at 9 a.m. May 17, when he’ll be expected to file a plea.
