DEKALB – No one was injured after a residential fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in the 100 block of Home Drive in DeKalb, damaging two homes.
DeKalb firefighters were called about 1:30 p.m. to the area off East Lincoln Highway, for a reported garage fire.
Smoke could be seen from an attached garage, at 120 Home Drive, and crews were using hoses to extinguish the remaining embers. Crews continued to search for hidden fires and investigated the fire's cause into the afternoon, DeKalb Fire Chief Eric Hicks said.
“This is one of those ones that we can’t really tell how it started,” Hicks said.
DeKalb police also responded to the scene.
Both that house and the house next door at 116 Home Drive, sustained heat damage, Hicks said. The blaze caused roughly $5,000 in damage, in total, to both residences.
