Activities for teens, tweens at the DeKalb library

DeKALB – The DeKalb Public Library will host Teen/Tween Tuesdays that provide a different activity each Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. for students in grades 6-12.

Teen Tech Week is March 4-10. This year’s theme is “Libraries are for Creating ...” In that spirit, there will be a Maker Cart available that week, starting March 6.

Teens can create all week using the supplies available. Maybe they’ll make a catapult, a sculpture or a game.

On March 13, teens can bring their March Madness spirit to the Teen Room for a foam basketball tournament. There will be a $5 gift card for the champion.

March is Women’s History Month and on March 20 a few amazing, smart women will be celebrated.

During this entire week, there will be a box of props available for teens to imitate women like Serena Williams, Malala Yousafzai or Rosie the Riveter.

On March 27, students can learn about electricity using play dough. They can make a circuit or create a more complicated sculpture, such as an animal, and use LED lights and a battery pack to light it up. Squishy Circuits are a fun, hands-on way to learn the basics of circuits. No experience with circuits is needed.

Registration is not required for any of these free activities. They will be held in the Teen Room.
