DeKALB – Applications are open for the Township Officials of Illinois' annual scholarship where seven $1,500 scholarships will be awared to graduating high school seniors.
DeKalb Township Supervisor Jennifer Jeep Johnson said in a news release that these scholarships are a great way for someone starting college in the fall to get some early financial aid and to defer the cost of getting a college degree.
"To my knowledge, no student from the DeKalb area has ever been a recipient of the award, and it is my hope that changes this year," Johnson said.
Applications can be downloaded from dekalbtownship.org under the "supervisor" tab. Applications must be postmarked by March 1 to be considered, and students will be notified after April 1 if they are a recipient.
Eligible students must be a graduating high school senior with a 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, must be a U.S. citizen and Illinois resident, must plan to attend a university or college in Illinois and much ave a history of extracuricular activities that demonstrate a willingness to accept leadership responsibilities or a commitment to civic responsibility.
