Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore welcomes the community to Ash Wednesday services at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 14, including the Imposition of Ashes, Corporate Confession and Holy Communion.
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, 40 days of focus on one’s relationship with God and Jesus’ sacrifice. During Lent, Christians are encouraged toward good works, prayer and self-discipline – a giving of themselves for others leading to the joy of the Resurrection Easter Day.
Salem’s Midweek Lenten series “Were You There: People of the Passion” begins Feb. 21, for five Wednesdays with Soup and Salad Suppers served from 6 to 6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall before the Holden Evening Prayer in the Sanctuary at 7 p.m. Soups, beverages and tableware will be provided; those attending are asked to bring a salad, bread or dessert to share if able.
