Sanderson: 'We were upset we were seeded as sixth, so we wanted to come in here and make some noise and see what happened.'
SOMONAUK – When the players and coaches on the Hinckley-Big Rock boys basketball team found out they were seeded sixth for the Little Ten Conference tournament, they felt it was a little low.
On Friday night they proved it, beating No. 5 Leland-Earlville, 54-47, to take third in the tournament.
In the opener, the Royals knocked off No. 3 Serena to ensure a top-four spot.
“We felt for sure we were maybe seeded a little lower than we should have been,” Royals coach Seth Sanderson said. “That was a big motivation the last week of practice, and they really responded to it. Some teams, it’s a 50-50 thing – some teams fold, and some use it as motivation.”
