Prep roundup: DeKalb wrestler Johnson named Daily Chronicle's Athlete of the Week after undefeated showing at NIB 12 tournament

Coming into the Northern Illinois Big 12 East tournament as the No. 4 seed, Austin Johnson had a tournament to remember.

The DeKalb 160-pounder beat the top two seeds in the tournament to win the title. He was named the Daily Chronicle Athlete of the Week.

Johnson had not only wrestled only 11 matches this season entering the tournament, but had wrestled mainly at 145. He went 4-0, including three on-mat wins against No. 1 Zack Kutla of Yorkville and No. 2 Turner Garcia of Sterling.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Indian Creek falls to Princeton: The Timberwolves lost, 40-34.

Jade Milostan scored 15 for the Timberwolves in the loss.

LATE MONDAY

Beavers sets Indian Creek school record for 3-pointers: Jake Beavers shot 11 of 14 from 3-point range, setting a school record for made 3-pointers in a 90-56 win for the Timberwolves over Paw Paw.

Beavers finished with 33 points, Nolan Govig added 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Joe Wilson had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Louis Faivre had nine points and seven assists, as the Timberwolves improved to 15-4.
