Through a 2017 Community Needs Grant, the DeKalb County Community Foundation (DCCF) is assisting Fox Valley Older Adult Services (FVOAS) in building a new outbuilding to house its durable goods items.

Through the Community Needs Grants program, the Community Foundation supports the charitable needs and efforts of nonprofit and community organizations throughout DeKalb County. To date, more than $22 million has been awarded to the community through grants and distributions since the foundation was founded in 1993.

FVOAS for many years has lent out durable goods equipment for free to those in need. Donations of items in good condition, such as wheelchairs, walkers, shower assist benches, etc., are accepted at the Fox Valley Community Center. The inventory of this equipment has been stored in trailers behind the center. With this grant from the DCCF and additional funding, FVOAS will be able to erect a new outbuilding this coming spring.

FVOAS, through its active adult activities at the Senior Center, home services and adult day service, offers activities and services to seniors in DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and Bureau counties. Through generous community support, such as that from the DCCF, FVOAS will continue to assist many seniors in living vital and independent lives and avoid unnecessary and early nursing home placement.

Call 815-786-9404 for information on FVOAS programs and services.
