Cheey Mama: Hark, the recovering Grinch

’Twas the week before Christmas, and I have managed to get and wrap all but two gifts. The satisfaction feels holly jolly to me.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and I couldn’t wait to watch “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” with my hubby. It will not be a silent night.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and my 31/2-year-old “accidentally” has opened only one gift, which makes this reindeer want to shout with glee.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and I hadn’t gained any weight. With all the goodies from students and staff, you would have thought the holiday 10 pounds would be well on their way. Depriving myself of a little treat makes me something of a wise man.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and the decorations hadn’t blown away in this DeKalb wind. Nor has it snowed. This makes me merry and bright.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and I had more than 30 Christmas/Hanukkah/New Year’s cards donned upon my entryway. My frosty heart melts with every Christmas card I open or write.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and I hadn’t seen my favorite Corona Christmas commercial. Has it been discontinued? Oh, the only hope I have is less than 12 days away.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and no one in the family had fallen ill. Thanking the Lord above that nothing is stirring in my house.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and the Christmas tree had only seven ornaments on it. These seven all are so very sentimental. Two are dedicated to our baby in heaven, and the other ones were created by Hannah Jo’s little hands. Watching them glow among the lights makes my soul hark for the angels to sing.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and we have wonderful plans with our family and friends. New Year’s Eve is even planned. Having Hannah Jo be with people who love and care about her makes this mama feel like jingling some bells.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and I had thought about going to church either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. This sinner is trying to reconcile.

’Twas the week before Christmas, and I managed to keep my thoughts aglow. I am assuming I might be a recovering Grinch.
