Prep roundup: Mills scores 34 to lead DeKalb girls basketball to win

Rocky Mills scored 34 points to power the DeKalb girls basketball team to a 46-40 win against Woodstock on Friday in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

The Barbs (3-8) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.

They’ll face Crystal Lake South at 10:30 a.m. and Belvidere at 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodstock as the tournament continues.


Royals fall to Serena: Hinckley-Big Rock got 15 from Seth Misukanis but lost, 54-46.

Spencer Brown added 11 for the Royals.


Barbs in second at Whitlach: With 12 wrestlers advancing to the second day and nine in the quarterfinals, DeKalb was in second place heading into the final day of the tournament at Hinsdale Central.

Blake McGee, Fabian Lopez, Jacob Lindemann, Michael Clayton, Christian Komitas, Cobe Schmerbach, Logan Roach, Blah Dahnweih and Niels Lewerentz all made the quarterfinals. Gabe Irwin and Cole Kelly remained alive in the wrestlebacks.


DeKalb-Sycamore dominates Batavia: The Barbs went on the road for the first time this year, beating the Bulldogs, 144.4-131.2.

Madison Hickey had the highest score in three of the four events, with a 9.65 in the vault, a 9.3 on the beam and a 9.3 on the floor.

Her 9.15 on the bars was second only to teammate Lauren Leman’s 9.6.

Other DeKalb gymnasts to score at least a 9.0 were Emily Jovanovich (9.2) and Miranda Maciejewski (9.1) on the vault, and Jovanovich (9.0) and Sam Keating (9.05) on the floor.
