'Art of Giving' brings in donations of art supplies

The Kishwaukee Valley Art League held an “Art of Giving” program on Dec. 7 during its monthly meeting at the DeKalb Public Library.

Members brought donations of art supplies to be given to local charities, including Gracie Center, Safe Passage, Hope Haven and the DeKalb County Home and Nursing Center.

Also, six exceptional art students, who were selected by their teachers, each gave presentations of their art work. Students included Julie Umekubo and Hannah Harvey from Sycamore High School; Hayley Krull and Asher Lowrey from DeKalb High School; and Tara Ozehowski and Alexander Gaytan from Kishwaukee College.

After their individual presentations, KVAL presented the students each with a certificate and a monetary award. The art departments of the three schools also received a monetary donation from KVAL to purchase supplies for their art departments.

The students were invited to show and/or sell their artwork at the Northern Illinois Art Show, to be held June 2 and 3 in Sycamore on the courthouse lawn. There will be a student display tent close to the KVAL raffle tent. All raffle proceeds go toward the December “Art of Giving” program.
