Men's basketball: Birthday boy German goes for 26 in NIU's win over Chicago State

Eugene German decided to do his birthday shopping for himself.

Celebrating his 20th birthday Saturday, the NIU sophomore scored 26 points as the Huskies won at Chicago State, 95-77.

“Really appreciate everyone that came out for my game and supported me on my birthday!! That was a special moment for me,” German tweeted after the game. “And Thanks for all the birthday wishes.ThankYou!!”

Levi Bradley scored 14, Rod Henry-Haynes added 13, and Justin Thomas had 11 as the Huskies (5-3) never trailed in the game to the Cougars
(2-9).

“It was a good bounce back after a tough loss to Milwaukee,” NIU coach Mark Montgomery said. “We came in last night and had a very focused practice, went through our morning routine [today] and jumped out on them, shooting an unbelievable percentage in the first half. A lot of guys gave us quality minutes, and we did some good things today.”

German had 16 in the first half, and the Huskies led, 91-66, with five minutes left.

NIU plays again Monday when the Huskies travel to Iowa State. The game tips off at 8 p.m. and will be on ESPNU.
