DeKALB – Budget discussions by the City Council for fiscal 2018 will continue during a special meeting Tuesday.
The council already has held two special Committee of the Whole meetings in November to discuss the budget, during which it went over proposed expenditures and recommendations from the finance advisory committee.
On Thursday, the council held a joint meeting with the finance advisory committee to outline a proposed 5 percent reduction in city department budgets for fiscal 2018. This equates to nine full-time positions and 11 part-time positions being dropped and nearly $20 million being cut.
Staff members also discussed the approval of a proposed tax levy extension, which will limit the increase to the estimate growth of the equalized assessed valuation.
The special council meeting will be at 5 p.m. in the council chambers of the DeKalb Municipal Building at 200 S. Fourth St.
