DeKalb man accused of cutting through neighbor's window screens with sword

DeKALB – A 48-year-old DeKalb man is facing criminal trespassing charges after police said he cut through multiple window screens using a sword to break into his neighbor’s apartment Saturday morning.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 12:30 a.m. Saturday to a 911 call reporting a possible home invasion at Suburban Apartments in the 1400 block of Twombly Road in DeKalb, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Police said Joseph R. Kremsreiter, who is listed as living at the apartment complex, entered a neighbor’s apartment twice without invitation and after being removed the second time, Kremsreiter returned with a sword, which he used to cut through two window screens.

Kremsreiter also cut one individual on both hands while he was breaking into the apartment, according to the release. The individual was taken to an area hospital.

Kremsreiter was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, criminal trespassing and criminal damage to property.

He is in the DeKalb County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
