New directors and officers were elected to the Opportunity House Inc. Board of Directors at the annual meeting on Oct. 26.
One new director, Wayne Riesen, was elected to a three-year term. Officers elected are Karen Simmons, chairwoman; Tim Conklin, vice chairman; Helen Traglia, secretary, Kevin Poorten, treasurer; and Tom Matya, past chairman.
The annual meeting included a report from Executive Director Bob Shipman on the state of the organization and its accomplishments over the previous fiscal year.
Shipman reported that despite the challenges of inadequate state funding, Opportunity House remains financially sound and maintains all of its programs and services designed to meet the needs of adults with developmental disabilities.
Accomplishments through the year included the relocation of all administrative and day program operations to the newly remodeled facility at 357 N. California St. in Sycamore. Consolidating operations will significantly reduce the cost of delivering services while enhancing coordination and integration.
Opportunity House is a nonprofit, community-sponsored organization that offers residential, vocational, social recreational programs, and partners with other organizations such as Kishwaukee College, Kiwanis and the Boy Scouts of America to help people develop increased independence and self-sufficiency, and lead happy, healthy and productive lives.
