On Tuesday, the district announced a partnership with Northwestern Medicine and Northern Illinois University’s Department of Kinesiology. The Pathways to Fitness program will allow members to get professional assistance to reach their health and fitness goals, according to a news release from the park district. It will include wellness experts and graduate students from NIU who are pursuing a career in health and fitness. Members will have access to the fitness center 24 hours a day.
“It’s a great way for us to engage in the community,” said Chad McEvoy, chairman of NIU’s kinesiology and physical education department. “We’ve developed an external graduate assistantship.”
Similar to an internship, a graduate assistantship will allow a graduate student at the university to work in their field and gain real-world experience, while having some of their tuition cost offset.
