DeKALB – One car was completely destroyed, two were damaged and an apartment building's siding was melting off following a car fire Wednesday night in a DeKalb parking lot.
DeKalb firefighters responded just after 9:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 700 block of Fotis Drive in DeKalb for a report of a car on fire, DeKalb Deputy Fire Chief Jeff McMaster said.
When crews arrived, they found a Dodge Durango SUV engulfed in flames. The car was in a parking lot between two other cars and near an apartment building. Firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the blaze, and no one was injured.
The SUV was completely destroyed, and the two other cars were damaged. The nearby apartment building also suffered heat damage - its siding was warped and melting, McMaster said.
The damage to the building was estimated to cost $5,000 and the SUV was valued at $7,500. The other two vehicles did not have damage cost estimates as of Thursday morning, McMaster said.
The SUV's owner said the vehicle had previously driven fine, McMaster said.
The fire's cause is undetermined, but it is not considered suspicious. It is not under investigation.
