Fox Valley Older Adult Services has been included in the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership’s Northern Illinois University NGOLD Internship Program for a third consecutive semester.
“Because of the generosity of the Roberts Family Foundation, FVOAS benefited from this worthwhile program,” said a news release from FVOAS.
Audrey Daley, a spring intern, has returned to assist the agency during the fall semester.
"Daley enjoys working with seniors and doing grant research,” said the news release. "During the spring semester she initiated a much-needed recycling program."
Summer intern Brian Joanis helped FVOAS with grant research assistance and technology assistance, along with caring support in the FVOAS adult day service program. The adult day service staff noted that Joanis was very intuitive to the needs of the individual clients and encouraged their participation in activities that were specific to their interests.
Both interns also assisted with FVOAS’ newsletter publication.
Having these interns' assistance helps FVOAS in accomplishing its mission. Through FVOAS, seniors are able to continue to live vital and independent lives by having a senior center with active adult programs, adult day service and home services. FVOAS also provides transportation and meals with its partner, Voluntary Action Center.
