2, 2017, while on their way home from class to talk about the recent shooting that occurred late Saturday
night at the 800 block of Russell Road. Bonnan said he heard the shots and called the police.)
But Bonnan, a 21-year-old sophomore at Northern Illinois University, forgot his wallet inside the Delta Upsilon fraternity house – where he lives – on the corner of Greenbrier and Russell roads. So his girlfriend waited in his car as he rushed in to retrieve it.
Then he said he heard the gunshot.
“I was like, ‘Oh, [expletive],’ ” Bonnan said. “I knew what I heard. It was definitely a gunshot. I ran back to the car to check on my girlfriend to see if she was still alive.”
Bonnan returned to his car and found out his girlfriend was OK.
DeKalb police still are investigating a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Russell Road, about a half-mile from the 1000 block of West Hillcrest Drive, where gunfire was reported Thursday night.
