Cor Cantiamo, an ensemble in residence at the Northern Illinois University School of Music, received three generous grants this summer.
The Wurlitzer Foundation awarded $7,500 and through the Community Needs grant, the DeKalb County Community Foundation awarded $2,000. These funds will be used to bring world-class choral music to the DeKalb County region and continue the mission of performing and promoting contemporary choral music. Cor Cantiamo also can continue its educational outreach programs for local high school choral students.
The ensemble also received a grant from the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership. Participation in the DCNP program helps Cor Cantiamo hire an intern from the NIU Center for Non-Profit and NGO Studies. The intern will gain experience in working with a board and administrative operations.
Cor Cantiamo’s first concert of the 2017-18 season will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall on the NIU campus.
