Pickup truck strikes, seriously injures 12-year-old bicyclist in Sycamore

SYCAMORE – A pickup truck driven by an Esmond man struck and seriously injured a 12-year-old boy riding his bike Monday night in Sycamore, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 7:17 p.m. to the intersection of Airport Road and Quigley Road in Sycamore, the release said. Deputies determined a white 2017 Dodge pickup had struck a boy, who was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital and later flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital with serious facial injuries, according to the release.

Logan C. Way, 21, of the 300 block of Old State Road, was driving the pickup that hit the boy on the east side of Airport Road and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and improper lane use, the release said.

The boy was not identified because he is a minor, and the crash remains under investigation.
