Area football roundup: H-F overwhelms Bolingbrook in second half

FLOSSMOOR – Homewood-Flossmoor outscored Bolingbrook, 35-0, in the second half Friday night to erase a 20-13 deficit and post a 48-20 victory in a battle of Southwest Suburban Conference undefeated teams.

Anthony Vespo threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns in the first half for Bolingbrook (3-1, 1-1) and finished 12 of 24 for 228 yards. I’Shawn Stewart caught six passes for 119 and a TD. Anthony Wiliams Jr. caught a 59-yard touchdown from Vespo and scored a rushing touchdown.

The Raiders ran 11 offensive plays in the second half and Vespo was sacked on seven of those plays for 61 yards in losses as the defense for H-F (4-0, 2-0) took over the game.

HIGHLIGHTS

Lincoln-Way West 49, Thornridge 8: Anthony Senerchia completed 15 of 24 passes for 138 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Warriors to the Southwest Suburban win.

Senerchia hit Alex Croft with 13- and 18-yard scoring tosses and found Egann Wydajewski from nine yards out. Caleb Marconi chipped in two touchdowns for West (3-1, 2-1) on runs of 1 and 14 yards, Jake Price returned a punt for a score, and Greyson Grimm closed the scoring with a 4-yard run.

Marconi rushed nine times for 53 yards, Grimm seven times for 37. Croft caught three passes for 37 and Cullen Barry grabbed five for 39. On defense, Kevin Davis had nine tackles with a sack and Jordan Telez chipped in 1½ sacks.

Lincoln-Way East 46, Sandburg 7: Kwaku Appiah caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Brendan Morissey and returned an interception 33 yards for a score as East (4-0, 2-0) rolled to the SWSC victory.

Mason Keenan chipped in a 66-yard punt return for a score, Jordan Corbett rushed nine times for 86 yards and two touchdowns and Ryan Scianna scored on a 4-yard run. Morrissey finished 6 of 12 passing for 110 yards and rushed 11 times for 95 yards.

Lemont 15, Richards 10: Austin Nagel caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Matthias with 1:25 left to lift the Indians to victory. Matthias completed 7 of 20 passes for 117 yards. Anthony Martin rushed for 106 yards on 17 carries. Caleb Young’s 45-yard interception return put Lemont (3-1, 1-0) on the board in the second quarter.

Coal City 35, Manteno 21: The Coalers (4-0, 2-0) remained unbeaten with the Interstate Eight Large victory. Danny Norton rushed for 85 yards in 16 carries and Connor Scubic chipped in 52 in 12 attempts. Payton Hutchings hit 5 of 10 passes for 108 yards, one a 57-yard scoring strike to Gavyn Williams.

Lisle 28, Reed-Custer 6: Justin Read scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter to help Reed-Custer (0-4, 0-2) avoid a shutout. He finished with 53 yards on seven carries and caught three passes for 47. Josh Loomis completed 8 of 18 passes for 80 yards.

Other scores: Clifton Central 49, Dwight 12; Seneca 30, Westmont 7.
