Letter: Cheers to Pritchard for state budget vote

To the Editor:

I’d like to express my appreciation for state Rep. Bob Pritchard’s recent actions in Springfield.

As a Republican, he worked with Republican and Democratic colleagues to increase necessary revenue for our state to pay off state debts and pass a budget after two years.

With Northern Illinois University, Kishwaukee Community College and a number of pre-K to 12th-grade community school districts in his district, he regularly hosts an education council where he listens to the concerns of administrators and teachers.

He hosted a visit from state schools Superintendent Tony Smith and ensured that his area was visited by the Illinois State Board of Education when the Every Student Succeeds Act was going to bring accountability changes to our school districts.

For the past two years, college students and those businesses benefiting from their attendance have suffered because of damaging cuts and a nonexistent budget.

As a parent of a public school student and a proud public school educator, I support the recent decisions to increase revenue and pass a budget that will allow our public education institutions to continue providing opportunities for the citizens of Illinois.
