One would think that I watch a bunch of cartoons, but Hannah Jo doesn’t sit still long enough.
Which is good for me, because this cheeky mama gets free rein on the clicker.
I have eclectic taste when it comes to the boob tube. Throughout the day, as white noise, I either blast the cable hit list station or have on shows. The quiet unnerves me.
Routinely, I watch particular shows that revolve around the habits of my daughter.
During the summer, our days are fun-filled adventures. We are usually out of the house by 10 a.m., if not before.
While getting ready, I choose to watch the morning news. If we leave late, my real indulgence is Kathie Lee & Hoda. Perhaps it's the booze that entices me or the juicy celebrity gossip.
However, I was going through an extremely rough time in my life while Kathie had just lost her husband. She was talking about her grief. Directly into the camera she said something to the effect of, "I know watchers might be hurting right now as I am, and my heart feels it too."
I was grieving for my baby that I miscarried, and I burst into tears. She was speaking right to me. I felt the honesty in her sentiment. This mama adores them.
Murder mysteries are playing in the background while Hannah Jo is napping. There’s something about bringing a criminal to justice that satisfies me. Since nap time lasts from 3 p.m. til 3:30-ish, I can accomplish some housework while trying to solve the case.
Besides playing detective, I have been swallowed up by the hoopla of reality television. With that being said, I have to confess that I can’t get enough of the "Real Housewives" series. From Orange County to New York City, I am totally guilty of longing to be a Real Housewife of DeKalb County! My fantasy is fulfilled after my daughter goes down for the night. Though there have been times, no judging, that while cuddling with Hannah Jo, the muck has been on.
If it’s Sunday night, my husband and I are devout "Game of Thrones" fans. We enjoy being immersed in the lives of these fictional characters. I can say Jon Snow really has the leadership skills to be a king. He is a good man regardless of being a bastard. Daenerys Targaryen would make a strong-yet-tender queen. She has gone through so much after losing her husband and child, making her wise beyond her years. These two pull at my heartstrings.
It’s comical that my daughter’s schedule revolves around my television shows. Sometimes, I really do zone out while watching them. Though, most of the time it is truly white noise. Perhaps it’s the predictability of what will be on that helps soothes these mama nerves, or it could be that I am a cheeky mama couch potato.
Either way, it works for me.
How about you? What are you watching?
