Letter: Don't let Republicans gut Medicaid

To the Editor:

Please contact your congressmen and senators immediately and tell them to vote against the Better Care Reconciliation Act (or whatever it is called today) and its provisions to gut Medicaid.

If you have friends and relatives in other states, particularly West Virginia, Alaska, and Nevada, ask them to call, too. Many of their elected representatives are trying to decide their vote and could be persuaded to care for people.

You are told that the purpose of this bill is to repeal and replace Obamacare. It is not.

The purpose of this bill is to gut Medicaid. Its funding will be reduced nearly $90 billion a year.

Medicaid is the social safety net for all of us. It protects you and me when the economy sours or the unthinkable happens.

Medicaid also is a lifeline for frail older adults and people with disabilities. It funds their long-term care and keeps people with disabilities out of nursing homes. Their lives depend on Medicaid, and their lives will be devastated if these funds are cut.

I ask that everyone says very clearly to our elected representatives: Don’t Cut Medicaid!  Don’t devastate the most vulnerable people in our country – frail older adults and people with disabilities! Keep the social safety net for our loved ones! Thank you.
