Letter: Say no to more dog breeding

To the Editor:

Dekalb County residents, please speak up for the dogs! B&C Kennels wants to add 100 dogs to their current special use permit, which allows them to keep up to 40 dogs.

B&C is operating as a satellite kennel for a commercial breeding facility in Tennessee, A-1 Kennel run by Angela Shubert.

I am the Illinois director of the Companion Animal Protection Society. Our organization investigated A-1 Kennel in 2015. You can view our investigation of the Tennessee kennel at www.caps-web.org. At the time of our investigation, there were 600 dogs and 120 puppies at A-1 Kennel. B&C Kennels sold 535 puppies in 2016.

I visited B&C Kennels in summer 2016 and they did not disclose to me where the dogs come from. They told me the puppy I was holding came from their cousin in Tennessee. They would not give me the name of the cousin in Tennessee.

The Illinois Animal Welfare Act states you must publicly display where every puppy comes from.

Please contact the County Board Members and/or attend the County Board Meeting on June 21. and say NO to more dogs in Dekalb County. Thank you.

Ida McCarthy
