Retiring Genoa-Kingston superintendent to be honored at reception

GENOA – After 33 years in education and seven years as superintendent of Genoa-Kingston School District 424, Joe Burgess is retiring.

In honor of his service, a special open house will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. May 24 at the Genoa-Kingston Learning Center at 980 Park Ave.

Members of the public are welcome to show their appreciation for Burgess’ leadership.

Kristie Mulso, administrative assistant to the superintendent, said there will be cake and light snacks at the reception.

Burgess’ contract will expire at the end of June. He will be replaced by Virginia Community Unit School District 64 Superintendent Brent O’Daniell, whose contract was unanimously approved by the school board during a meeting in January.
