Letter: Jerry Smith – the leader DeKalb needs

To the Editor:

Being born and raised in DeKalb my whole life, a familiar figure and role model for me has always been Jerry Smith.

I have had the privilege of knowing Jerry as both a caring family man and successful business executive.

Growing up as a child in the same neighborhood, Jerry – along with his wife, Ging, and son, Eric – was always present, being the first to offer a helping hand within the neighborhood.

His commitment to our community extended to our local church, where he was easily recognized leading the congregation through scripture as a lector, or stepping in to volunteer for the church wherever need be.

While always being a prominent figure within the community, Jerry Smith has also made a significant impact as a local businessman. Through his passionate, no-nonsense and proven leadership, Jerry served as president of a local printing company for 20-plus years, while still finding the time to serve on numerous social service committees that have bettered our community.

Within these positions, he has had to make important and challenging decisions that I believe will translate to the mayoral role. With these qualifications, I believe Jerry Smith is the mayoral candidate who can help move DeKalb forward. Please vote, with me, on April 4 for Jerry Smith.
