You might have noticed something new in the Cubs coverage in our sports pages since pitchers and catchers reported for spring training,
That something new is the byline of Cubs beat writer Bruce Miles. Miles has been covering the Cubs since December 1997 but, starting this year, he also will be our Cubs expert.
Nearly every day, at home and on the road, Miles will be writing on the defending World Series champions in our pages, thanks to a coverage partnership between the Daily Herald and Shaw Media in our newspapers and websites.
It’s clear how much you care about the Cubs in their quest to repeat as champs, so bringing you stories from a baseball expert who has covered the team for almost 20 years simply made sense.
Miles traveled to Japan to cover the Cubs and has co-authored the book, “Harry Caray: Voice of the Fans” with Cubs radio play-by-play announcer Pat Hughes. Miles understands and will incorporate where baseball is at and what sabermetrics mean to it.
He’s a Cubs expert, our expert and your expert going forward.
We hope you’ll enjoy it. And make sure to check out our March 30 editions, where we’ll have a 32-page preview of the Cubs and White Sox seasons.
That section, which also will be running in the Daily Herald, will take a deep look into what it will take for the Cubs to repeat, where past teams have fallen short, the rebuilding task in front of the Sox and how it’s similar to and different than what the Cubs faced while rebuilding.
It also will include predictions, from everyone from Miles to Hub Arkush, on what to expect in the season ahead for both Chicago teams.
We’re excited about the season ahead and we can tell that you are too. Enjoy.
