DeKALB – As MC Sports prepares to close all of its remaining stores, including the one in DeKalb, a liquidation sale is underway.
A joint venture between Tiger Capital Group and Great American Group will oversee the going-out-of-business sale, according to a news release.
MC Sports, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday.
The 13,500-square-foot store at 2058 Sycamore Road in DeKalb is one of eight in Illinois and one of 66 across the Midwest, according to the release.
The stores sell a wide array of sporting goods and apparel. During the liquidation sale, the stores will offer discounts of up to 60 percent. There will be some exceptions, such as firearms, according to the release.
“We are witnessing a unique era of consolidation in sporting goods retailing due in part to the rapid growth of e-commerce,” Tiger Group COO Michael McGrail said in a statement. “But stabilization is an inevitability; chainwide store-closure events such as this won’t continue forever in sporting goods.”
