In highlighting commercial development, we recognize the efforts of all city and village officials in plan review and permitting, as well as recruiting. In addition, we acknowledge the efforts of all commercial realtors who market properties and close deals that facilitate these projects.
On Sycamore Road, Brian Bemis Toyota has completed a major remodeling of its Toyota dealership with assistance from the city of DeKalb and the new DeKalb County Enterprise Zone. First Midwest Group completed a new specialty retail building, and Aspen Dental completed a new clinic.
On West Lincoln Highway, Popeye’s completed a new restaurant and Book World leased space in the Junction Shopping Center. Developer KV & Sons is building a strip center on East Lincoln Highway for Subway and Marco’s Pizza. Common Grounds Books & Coffee Bar opened in downtown DeKalb.
On East Lincoln Highway, Fargo Skateboarding expanded to the Fargo Theater building, creating one of the few indoor skate parks in northern Illinois. Curly’s Furniture opened a new store on East Lincoln Highway, the first expansion of its discount furniture business beyond its two Streator locations.
Casey’s General Store has acquired the northwest corner of Peace Road and East Lincoln Highway to build a new convenience store and gas station.
Mason Properties acquired the 1888 State St. building and leased space to Tri-State Towing for expansion of their operations. Mason also completed development of the state-of-art Mega Grande Laundromat in the South Fourth Street Commercial Center.
Resource Bank completed renovation of the 625 Bethany Road building in DeKalb to house its insurance business together with a conference center. In Sycamore, Resource Bank also completed renovation of the stone garage adjacent to the historic Townsend Mansion into a new branch bank location.
On DeKalb Avenue, First State Bank has begun construction of a new bank, its third in DeKalb County. Midwest Orthopaedic Institute established a rehab clinic in a building remodeled by Shepard Construction located at Coltonville Road.
In downtown Sycamore, Pappas Development has completed the Fargo-on-State mixed-use redevelopment to include the Fargo Home Furnishings store on the ground floor. Curt Lang remodeled the Sycamore Opera House Building to accommodate three storefronts, including Kramer’s Kitchen & Bath and Premier Realty Group.
On West State Street, Illinois Community Credit Union broke ground on construction of a new expanded headquarters branch on its current site combined with an adjacent corner parcel. Eggspress opened a breakfast and lunch restaurant on East State Street with a drive-through.
Alan Browne Chevrolet has announced plans for a 15,000-square-foot expansion of its Genoa dealership on Route 23. The Prairie Ridge Point shopping center was purchased by a new developer and space has been leased to Sylvan Learning Center.
Minnihan’s Irish Pub was established on Route 72 in downtown Genoa and Karlsbad Tavern has completed a major renovation.
Dollar General continued its growth in DeKalb County by building new stores in Waterman and Somonauk, while Casey’s General Store expanded its Maple Park operation. Mandy’s Just Because Gift Shop was established on Route 30 in Hinckley.
The new Jonamac Cider House was constructed to sample and sell apple wines and ciders at Jonamac Orchard in Malta and Remington’s Gastropub opened downtown on South Third Street.
In Shabbona, a St. Charles investor acquired and renovated the Indian Oaks Golf Course and opened a Bar & Grill in the renovated clubhouse.
Ag Tech, the Sandwich-based seed, fertilizer and agricultural services company, is building a new 24,000-square-foot building at Route 34 and Gletty Road.
