The Sycamore girls basketball team won its second straight game to start the season, topping Elk Grove, 40-38, Thursday at the Vernon Hills tournament.
The Spartans made their free throws down the stretch to hold off Elk Grove, and executed an inbounds play with 6 seconds left to take a two-point lead with 2 seconds left.
Kylie Feuerbach led the way with 15 points, with Kate Majerus adding 11 for the Spartans (2-0), who wrap up the tournament Saturday.
Galauner reaches milestone in win: Julie Galauner passed 1,000 career points in Genoa-Kingston’s 60-43 win over Milledgeville.
Galauner scored 22 as the Cogs improved to 2-1. Taylor Gilbert had 12, and Jesi Nay had 10.
Timberwolves fall to Chicago University: Sarah Diehl scored 14 points and had 18 rebounds, but Indian Creek lost, 44-39, at the IMSA tournament.
G-K falls to Kewanee: Galauner scored 26 points, but the Cogs fell to Kewanee in the Oregon tournament, 52-48. Jesi Nay scored 12 points for the Cogs.
DeKalb sweeps Rochelle: The Barbs won the series, 3,180-2,600, in taking all three games by at least 172 pins.
Logan Zarek rolled a 244-225-214–683 to lead the Barbs. DJ Stiles added a 614 series, powered by a 248 high game.
